Well, after a week of not seeing Abra I decided I needed my “Abra Fix.”
Anyway, it was really nice seeing her yesterday and it was kind of cute because she was happy to see me too!
We went to Henry Cowles Park and walked the circuit. Remember last time when we were there on the field trip-- she didn’t want to walk and got somewhat distressed?
Anyway, she did fine! Granted, at first, she followed me and asked for “car” and all that, but after a good ten minutes she was “resigned” to our walk and we ended up had fun.
I think the success of yesterday is due to 2 things:
1) Over summer Abra has gotten comfortable going on walks. 2) you showing me that walking away from her is OK and that she will follow.

Abra has autism and complex communication needs. Her primary mode of communicating is a LightWriter but she will also use her voice to verbalize some basic wants or greetings. Abra is an exceptional individual who is determined to understand the world around her and works hard to make herself understood.
